Holding On

Because That's What Life Asks of Us

Blog #100!!

What I do
  • Art-photography – pretty well everything you see is for sale, and it all makes beautiful prints. (A great gift!)
  • Portraiture: you and I will produce something special, for you, or for someone you love.
  • Commissions – ask me anything: private commissions welcome.
Status Report

Two exhibitions booked for this Autumn — more on that below — I feel so grateful for the opportunities.

The current one, Dark Joy at the O'Connor West in Gananoque (49 King St. E.), closes officially Sunday November 24, so you don't have much time left to see it. I would do another drop-in, but am currently contagious (but not ill) with a virus which starts with a C and ends with 19. Updates on my social media pages as they become available. Contact me or The O'Connor Gallery (Facebook link) for opening hours and so forth.

Next, Fri.-Sun. Nov. 29-Dec. 1, Arts Hub Brockville's Holiday Artisan show, St. John's United, 32 Park St., Brockville. Hope to see you all there!

Dawn Rain Port Dover
Dawn Rain Port Dover

On my road trip with my nonagenarian father in September, I chose Port Dover because i) I like it there, and ii) it wasn't Friday the 13th (bikers by the thousands!), and iii) it wasn't too much of a drive for Dad. One morning, I thought I would stay in, for the rain, but it moved on, except still visible to the east. I posted a sister-image last time.

Then, below, I still photograph dawn, and don't see stopping. Find the ship, and deduce from it how slow a shutter speed I used.

Canadian Horse – Upper Canada Village, Dave Sheridan (artist)

The new and amazing Canadian Horse at Upper Canada Village merits a blog all its own, as does the artist, Dave Sheridan. (Let's just say: negotiations are underway.)

Suffice it to say that I have spoken with Dave at length, and I have much to say. In fact, I unofficially call the September issue of The Fishwrapper the "Sheridan/Low" edition, because I got the cover (with a photograph of a Sheridan mural), and I got the photograph for the monthly It's Out There column (highlighting a piece of outdoor art), AND ... I got a full-length feature, on page 3, of an article and photographs about ... a certain Dave Sheridan!

(And what an amazing publication. Pick up a free copy anywhere, although the obvious place is HQ, Medium Effort on King St. W. in Brockville.)

A feature of the clouds photograph below is that Arts Hub Brockville has used it (among many others) as promotion for their upcoming show (see above). This specific image however isn't among those I will be exhibiting. I haven't had it printed.

But I could.

The light was right, the wind was right, and it all created this reflection, right downtown in Brockville's Tunnel Bay. And it needs the colour.

Then, the local cruise-ship industry seems to be ramping up. Le Champlain glided by in the barest light of dawn, not long ago, and one only has to wonder about the passengers, having traversed the world-famous Thousand Islands in darkness. I'm sure the cruise-line had its reasons.

And then, the Brockville Area Photography Club (BAPC) held a portraiture afternoon, with five volunteer models from the Music Theatre program at St. Lawrence College. They enjoyed it, we learned a lot, and this, currently, is my preferred work.

You know where to find me.

Specific thanks, at the College end, to their co-ordinator, Jaden. Check out her website: impressive.

Holding

I didn't explain the title, but clearly more has been happening than holding. But it's a feeling.

Note this blog's number! One hundred is fairly major!

Subscribe

I would love it if you were to subscribe to this blog, and to refer friends; art collectors may find this interesting.

You may wish to look through my larger portfolio. Almost everything is for sale. I favour large wall art, and also deal in books and other small items: prints, notecards, and postcards.

Check out my current Portraiture project. My next model is you. (Yes. I mean you).
